PRIVACY POLICY

Effective date: July 20, 2026

What Data We Collect

  • Account email address
  • Skin profile answers (including skin concerns, skin type, sensitivity, budget, age range, hormonal-changes status, and Fitzpatrick type)
  • Saved routines and preferred name
  • Chat messages you send to Sheila
  • Photos you choose to share for skin analysis — stored only if you choose to save them to your Progress timeline (see Face & Photo Data below)
  • Marketing attribution: the campaign link (UTM parameters), referrer, and signup page that brought you to Ask Sheila, stored with your account
  • Product usage analytics (see Analytics below)

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide personalized skincare recommendations
  • To operate your account and any subscription
  • To understand which marketing campaigns bring users to Ask Sheila (first-party attribution only — we do not sell your data or share it with ad networks)
  • To improve the product experience

AI-Powered Recommendations (OpenAI)

Ask Sheila uses OpenAI models (currently the GPT-4 family) to generate personalized skincare guidance. When you chat with Sheila or request a routine, your chat messages and your skin profile answers (such as skin concerns, sensitivity, budget, hormonal status, and Fitzpatrick type) are sent to OpenAI's API for processing. Before your first conversation, the app asks for your explicit consent to this processing, and nothing is sent to OpenAI until you agree. We do not send your email address or contact information to OpenAI. OpenAI processes this data under its own privacy policy and API data-usage terms, available at openai.com/policies.

Face & Photo Data

If you choose to share a photo for skin analysis, the photo is sent to OpenAI's Vision API for real-time analysis. By default, the photo is held in memory only for the duration of the analysis request and is discarded immediately after the result is returned to you.

If you choose to save a scan to your Progress timeline, that photo and its analysis are stored in your private, access-controlled storage — visible only to you, never shared, and never used to train AI models. You can delete any saved scan at any time from the Progress screen, and all saved photos are permanently deleted when you delete your account. Ask Sheila performs no facial recognition and creates no biometric identifiers.

Authentication & Data Storage (Supabase)

We use Supabase to authenticate your account and to securely store your email, skin profile, saved routines, subscription status, and marketing attribution.

Payment Handling (Stripe)

Payments, where offered, are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details; Stripe handles them under its own privacy policy. In the iOS app, subscriptions are purchased through the App Store: Apple processes the payment, and RevenueCat manages your purchase entitlement using your account ID and purchase state received from Apple — neither we nor RevenueCat receive your card details.

Analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog for product analytics, such as page views and key funnel events (for example, account creation and subscription), linked to your account ID after you sign in. On the web version only, PostHog session replay may record how you interact with pages — your conversation with Sheila is excluded from recordings, all form inputs are masked, and replay is paused on photo screens. Session replay and interaction autocapture are disabled in the iOS app.

Data Retention & Account Deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You may permanently delete your account at any time using Delete Account on the Profile screen in the app. Deleting your account removes your skin profile, saved routines, any saved Progress photos, and your authentication record (including your email) from our database and storage, and cancels any active web (Stripe) subscription. App Store subscriptions are billed by Apple and cannot be canceled by us — if you subscribed through the App Store, also cancel the subscription in your Apple ID subscription settings. This action cannot be undone. Photos you share for analysis without saving are never stored, so there is nothing to delete for those.
